This component is what the remote plugs into. Only two different style current limiters were used and the plugs easily differentiate them. Power bed equipped models are the exception.
Note: The new limiters we've been supplying for years have the ability to plug the camper into shore power or to the tow vehicle to raise and lower the roof.
Installation instructions for the power lift options can be found at the following links.
When we purchased our 2001 Coleman Niagara from the previous owners, they did not do it any favors. They jury-rigged a broken cable lift and just bypassed the old electric lift system without disconnecting it. I ended up replacing the:
Round Drive Lift Motor,
Power Lift Current Limiter,
Power Lift Remote Silver End,
Whiffle Tree, and
Rear Passenger-side Lift Cable
I purchased all the parts from Coleman Pop-up Parts using the assistance, advice, and helpful videos from the company to make sure I got the right parts, that fit perfect and were OEM quality it better. Everything worked perfectly and I was able to get my camper working properly. The associated video is the culminated effort of the install of the parts.
I had replace the lift motor only to find out the current limiter was the culprit. I place the order and delivery was prompt even during a pandemic. Great Job. Thank You!
The part arrived quickly. I had been fighting making the top go up and down for years - sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn’t. Now it works like it should.
The first limiter did not work. But Derik quickly placed another one in the mail, as I was sending the defective part back. This made the whole process of replacement fast and easy.
Thanks
easy to replace, and install on the trailer, however not enough wire to make it all the way inside the trailer. would be great if it comes with the shrink wrap to seal it off as the splice is outside.
I installed the new current limiter and my lift system works fine. It's a shame the last current limiter your service department installed only worked for less than two seasons.
Store owner replied:
Make sure that your only running the power lift from battery power, not when plugged into shore power. This is the leading culprit for failure of the limiter.
I ought a used 2009 Coleman Avalon, after purchasing it I had a remote for the lift only to find some one had hot wired it to a switch to only work on shore power. So I researched and found out that the lift is to work on 12 volt only not onshore power, so I bought a limiter wired it to 12 volts now I can use the remote. Thanks so much
I have a 2009 Coleman Saratoga tent-trailer. I had a problem with the lift system not working. I suspected the Power Lift Current Limiter was the problem, so I ordered this product online. I took the trailer as well as the replacement part to Camping World for repair. Sure enough that was the problem. After an easy swap of parts, my problem was fixed. I’m so glad this part was still available, since Coleman has been out of business for years. Happy camping!
To be honest we knew we had a problem but we had to have our friendly electrician over to determine what the problem was. He then replaced the part for us. My husband and I are not very knowledgeable about these things. I’m sure if you have some understanding of wiring you could install this. But now our camper raises and lowers without a problem!
I have purchased two of these over th life of my Coleman Saratoga. The first one worked as advertised, but the second one did not. I don't know if it was a defective part, or if something else is wrong. But, I am not thrilled with the idea of buying a third.
