I drilled out the original rivets and installed the new spring in the exact same spot. If I were to do it again I would push the door end of the spring further from the door frame end to tension the spring a little more. I am finding it only marginally improved my door closing as I don't believe there is enough tension on it.
It replaced the broken one perfectly, just had to drill out the old pop rivets and install new ones. A simple fix to keep your screen door closing like it always did before.
I used this to replace the spring on my 2001 Coleman Niagara door. The original spring is riveted and I found it easier to simply use a cold chisel and one quick blow of the hammer to remove the old rivets after 5 minutes of failed drilling, accidentally elongating one of the holes.
Be sure to make a hole into the plastic for the new rivet to go through (as done by factory), this will stop the plastic guard from sliding away from where the door meets the frame. I forgot this step and had to redo the one side.
This kit would have been nice to include new rivets, but wasn't an issue. I had to stretch the ends just a little to clear the rivet collars for a flush rivet installation.
Definitely recommend if you have an older Coleman and your spring broke.
